The new illness sweeping around Newgrounds: Obsessive Repulsion Disorder (ORD)

I've discovered a new illness going around, and it has come to my attention that starting flash artists are getting infected with it. I call it "Obsessive Repulsion Disorder" or "ORD" for short. I call it that because some artists are becoming obsessed with the fact that when they get criticism or advice, they respond quickly with a negative comment back to you. It's becoming a nuisance to me so much recently, I've decided to come up with three symptoms and a cure for each.

Here we go!

Symptom 1: The artist will respond to any comment on one of their flashes

I can understand that an artist will want to preserve and protect their work, but it reaches a level where they will respond to anything you give them.

Cure: Don't read every single comment you get, only ones that don't have a negative feel

If you don't read the negative comments, you will most likely feel less prone to try and either negate them or respond to them in a negative way.

Symptom 2: The artist will pester you about a negative review you gave

You should never, EVER pester someone about a bad comment. They gave their honest opinion, and you should respect that.

Cure: Respond to the negative comment in a positive way instead of a negative one

If you receive a negative comment, respond to that comment by saying how much you respect them for their opinion. It will usually help your reputation.

Symptom 3: The artist continually submits bad work even after several blams

This is one of the worst symptoms. If you get blammed for an idea more than three times, YOU NEED TO FIND A NEW IDEA. It isn't a question of poor animation, but the idea is flawed or not appealing.

Cure: Find a new idea

It may seem simple, but don't use the same idea twice. Spice up your flash history with different ideas from different perspectives.

This is my explanation for ORD, and what you can do to prevent yourself from getting it.

Tyrannical Portal......

I like noticing things. It's a hobby of mine. Unfortunately, it gets me into trouble a lot. If I notice a person's answer, people assume I'm looking at that answer and I'm going to copy that answer. If I notice a person's clothes, they're going to assume I usually don't like their clothes. However, I've noticed something else that pertains to the Portal......

Unfortunately, a lot of bad submissions get passed everyday. This annoys me greatly. I hate giving something a score of 0, and then having it pass with an average score of 2 or something. I actually have to go against my own ideas rather than go with my opinion. I think I figured out why this happens......

As many of you know, the higher rank and experience you are, the more voting power you have. Someone who is a commander will have priority in voting over someone that is a civilian. Unfortunately, there is a great unbalance of power that way. If a person who is ranked Commander votes a 5 on a submission that should get a 0, that really creates an unbalance in voting. If you have a voting power of 10 votes, you're worth 10 people with a voting power of 1 vote.

It really gets on my nerves sometimes that some people have priority over others. In turns into a form of tyranny since you're almost forcing something to work even though it shouldn't. It turns into an unbalance of power, and shouldn't be allowed to work.

It's time for things that I'd like to put out there on the table. I'll be explaining each thing, so don't get all angry and start yelling at me.

1. Why are these random people suddenly bothering me?

I'm sick and tired of flash designers sending me messages because I gave their flashes criticism. If you didn't want any criticism, then you shouldn't have put your flash on Newgrounds. Send me a message if you want me to review your flash, not if you're angry because you think I'm too harsh. Get over it.

2. How do some of these people have lives?

I don't believe how some of these people on Newgrounds can have other lives. If you're a Sup. Commander, you have done FAR too much rating. I can understand if you've been on Newgrounds for a couple years, but still, it seems quite ridiculous if you're a supreme commander with over 40000 points.

I'll have more stuff to talk about next time. Until then, I'll just review on myself.

Although I know many people won't read these each day, I feel that it's good for me to write and make sure I keep writing. It's becoming a healthy pattern for me. Also, I won't be updating these articles on holidays, birthdays, or weekends, but watch out for "Feature Articles" on weekends.

These new articles will start on June 16. Until then, I'll occasionally post some other stuff.

As I said, I feel more inclined to help people, which is now what I'm going to be doing. I'm going to keep my aura at light until I feel that I'm becoming my old, evil self again. Until then, I'm off to help people design their flashes.

My Debate With Myself:

I always liked to pride myself with being able to hurt people's feelings and being evil, but lately, I'm becoming more aware that I'm being so much nicer than meaner. I've even changed my aura status from Dark to Light because of my recent changes! Now, I really enjoy helping animators flourish into great artists rather than crushing their spirits and making sure they never annoy me again. I have slightly more saves than blams now, all because I'm being nicer to the Newgrounds community.

I've been making friends with animators. Normally, if an animation was good, I'd save it and move on, but now, I'm actually talking and listening to these people. I've been improving their aspects of animating, which I think is a good deed. I have a soft spot for a lot of these games and movies I keep seeing because they are always of some of my favorite characters and animations, but even when some artist comes along acting like an a**hole, I will blam them, but I'll then try and give them constructive criticism if they're saved.

Now I'm debating whether I should use my ideas for good or for evil. I'll be checking in with new posts to see my progress.
